U.S. Thanksgiving

Yesterday and today are historically the quietest days of the year in our industry as the Americans have shut down. I’ve always been amazed at how similar US and Canadian culture around hollidays is, with the exception of this one. I’ve never seen a one day holiday get stretched into a one week vacation like this bad boy. I’m jealous. It’s like Christmas vacation back to back.
It is also the biggest shopping day of the year today, Black Friday. This is the day that provides indicators for the World’s economy for the forseeable future. Canadian retailers are holding onto their same store sales reports tightly and praying for strong sales today in the U.S. as an indicator that it should be a strong selling season here.
Blah weather has been hampering the hard goods sector here so even the snow blower sales guys are looking for some silver lining in the information that will come out of the U.S. figures in the coming hours and days.

This is the time of year at Canada’s Best Store Fixtures where we look to thank our customers for their support over the past months. Although in recent years we have been doing more Christmas celebrating in January as it is easier on everyones schedules. This year will be more of the same as my trip to India next week is certainly throwing a wrench into my holiday lunch and dinner plans with our customers.

The third edition of our Holiday CD is complete and being shipped out to our customers as we speak.

Its a great time of year, enjoy it. It’s not just about Christmas or Hanukkah or whichever other religious holiday you may celebrate. Its about being with your family and friends as well as taking some time alone and reflecting on what you’ve done over the past year, which should help to shape your plans for what you are going to do in the coming year.
