Healthy Planet’s Store Rollout: Inside the One-Stop Shop Approach That Works.

A stunning retail design is only half the battle. Here’s how Healthy Planet turned a bold new concept into a fully built, functional store; on budget, on schedule, and ready to scale.

Turning Healthy Planet’s Bold Store Concept into a Rollout-Ready Retail Environment.

When it comes to retail buildouts, there’s one universal truth: A stunning design is only half the battle.

Don’t get us wrong, a stunning design is a fantastic starting point. But as we pointed out in a recent post on six retail fixture fails, lessons we learned the hard way, the real challenge lies in turning that vision into a fully built, functional store environment. Something that works for operations, hits budget, and can be scaled across multiple locations.

Healthy Planet, one of Canada’s fastest-growing retailers, knows this challenge well.  When they worked with Jump Branding & Design to unveil a bold new store concept, they came to CBSF to make it happen.

The result?  A fully realized store environment that matched the design intent, met operational needs, and was built to roll out on time and on budget.

Here’s how we did it.

Step 1: Translate the Vision and Design into Build-Ready Specs

  • A mix of 3rd-party fixtures from multiple vendors
  • Standard gondola shelving
  • Custom full-wall displays and shelving
  • Custom checkouts
  • A custom ceiling and lighting grid

On paper, it looked spectacular. But paper doesn’t factor in:

  • Material availability
  • Vendor lead times
  • Durability in high-traffic environments
  • Installation challenges
  • Budget constraints

Our role: Breaking down the design into its real-world requirements, then mapping out how each component could be cost-effectively built, shipped, and installed in the most efficient way possible, without sacrificing brand impact.

Step 2: Source Smart, Build Smarter

One of the biggest advantages of working with an end-to-end manufacturer and installation partner is the flexibility we offer in material choice, as well as our expanded supplier network.

We don’t just take the spec and quote it; our team goes to market to find the best ways to manufacture and construct the retailer’s vision and the designer’s plans.

For Healthy Planet, this meant:

  • The Feature Wall – The design called for natural wood. We proposed vinyl-wrapped aluminum because it’s lighter, straighter, more durable, and far easier to install in the long run.
  • Beauty Section Displays – The originally-scoped, pre-built options were stunning, but over budget.  We custom-built displays inspired by the design, delivering the same visual impact at a lower cost.
  • Ceiling Grid Material – The specified material wasn’t available in the required quantity.  We sourced an alternative that fit the budget, timeline, and design aesthetic.

Step 3: Prototype Before You Roll Out

Retail environments need to look great and function flawlessly, day after day, year after year, across all locations.

That’s why we value-engineer and prototype to:

  • Test size, proportions, and sightlines
  • Validate durability and finish quality
  • Ensure assembly and installation go smoothly
  • Catch usability issues before rollout

Healthy Planet’s prototypes allowed us to fine-tune all aspects of the custom fixtures and displays, ensuring that once rollout began, there were no surprises.

Step 4: Build for Scale, Not Just for One Store

A retail fixture that works beautifully in one location might be a nightmare to ship, unload, and adapt in another.

Our design-build process accounts for multi-location rollout:

  • Breaking down components for efficient shipping and load-in
  • Designing fixtures that can adapt to varying store layouts
  • Creating consistent assembly methods for installation crews
  • Ensuring all finishes and materials are repeatable and maintainable over time

For Healthy Planet, this meant every custom element, from checkouts to wall displays, was design-built for repeat production and consistent quality.

Step 5: Manage the Install Like a Pro

Even the best plans can fail without precise execution on-site.

Our team of installers and merchandisers:

  • Coordinates delivery schedules with GCs and store opening timelines
  • Keeps projects on track even when last-minute site adjustments are needed
  • Verifies every element matches the approved prototype before sign-off

The Bottom Line: The One-Stop Shop Advantage

Healthy Planet’s growth from 3 to 30+ stores in under a decade is fuelled, in part, by its ability to consistently execute on its brand vision.

Working with trusted partners like Canada’s Best Store Fixtures for their retail displays, shelving, and custom retail fixtures, and using a single point of contact, means fewer points of failure, faster problem-solving, and complete alignment from concept to completion.

If you’re planning a new store build, renovation, or multi-location program:

  • Get Involved Early – Bring your execution partner in during design review.
  • Be Open to Alternatives – The right substitutions can save money without sacrificing look or function.
  • Prototype Before Rollout – It’s cheaper to fix problems once than 20 times.
  • Think Beyond One Location – Design-build fixtures and finishes for easy scaling.
  • Streamline Vendors – The fewer handoffs, the smoother your project will run.
