HOW CBSF HELPED CANADIAN TIRE GAIN SPACE AND REDUCE STAFF WORKLOAD

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you imagine a Canadian Tire store? Perhaps it’s the massive selection of home goods, its garden department, seasonal goods, or its automotive section?

Recently, CBSF worked with Toronto Canadian Tire store owner David Hicks to address a growing challenge facing the mix of shoppers that frequent his store: freeing up floor and aisle space so they could better navigate the store.

And, as a high-low retailer with a weekly sales flyer driving fluctuating demand, the store needed efficient and adaptable retail shelving and display solutions that staff could stock quickly and efficiently.

Simply put, Power Ends are versatile shelving units designed to benefit both retailers and consumers. They feature multiple shelves with exceptional holding capacity and a lower space that allows pallets to be directly loaded into the rack. This design streamlines the process for retailers, making it easier and faster to stock bulkier items directly from the truck to the shelf. Additionally, wire bins can be added to hold various products. The side wing panels are ideal for displaying impulse items and serve as visual guides to draw customers down the aisle.

Here’s how we approached the design and collaborated with David and his team on development:

• Initial Consultation: We started by understanding Canadian Tire’s specific needs and challenges. Our team quickly mocked up several design options for review.

• Factory Visits: David and his general manager visited our factory multiple times. These visits allowed them to see the production process, test the durability of the fixtures, and provide valuable feedback.

• Durability Testing: We subjected the Power Ends to rigorous testing, including impacts from skids and daily wear and tear, to ensure they could withstand the retail environment.

The Final Product

The custom-designed Power Ends provide a number of advantages for Canada Tire locations:

• Increased Holding Capacity: They enable stores to hold more stock, ensuring products are always available, even during peak sales periods.

• Improved Navigation: The wing panels on the sides guide customers down the aisles, making the store easier to navigate.

• Enhanced Impulse Sales: Power Ends help increase average basket size and overall sales by prominently displaying high-margin and impulse items.

The Results Speak for Themselves

Since installing Power Ends, this Canadian Tire location has seen significant improvements.

• Clutter-Free Aisles: By opening up the centre aisle, the store now offers a more spacious and enjoyable shopping experience.

• Increased Customer Satisfaction: This wide-open model has increased customer shopping satisfaction from 72% to 92%.

• Operational Efficiency: Staff can better manage stock levels and ensure everyday items are always available.

Based on the success at this location, Power Ends are now being rolled out to other Canadian Tire stores as they undergo remodels, ensuring stores have more on-floor stock in high-traffic areas during peak sales periods.
